Combined Medical Services Examination (CMS)

Introduction

The Combined Medical Services (CMS) Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India. This examination recruits medical officers for various government organizations such as Indian Railways, Municipal Corporations, and other central government institutions.

Roles and Responsibility

Candidates selected through the CMS Examination are appointed as medical officers in various government sectors. Their responsibilities include providing medical care, conducting health surveys, managing public health issues, and ensuring the implementation of health policies. They may also be involved in administrative roles, research, and training programs.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination.

Age Limit: Candidates must be below 32 years of age as of 1st August of the examination year. Age relaxations are applicable as per government rules.

Other Requirements: Candidates must be physically and medically fit as per the standards of the CMS examination.

Steps to Apply for Exam

Online Registration: Visit the official UPSC website and complete the registration process.

Fill Application Form: Enter personal, educational, and other required details accurately.

Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of photograph, signature, and other necessary documents.

Fee Payment: Pay the application fee through online banking, credit/debit card, or other available methods.

Submit Application: Review the filled details and submit the application form. Take a printout for future reference.

Exam Pattern

The CMS Examination consists of two parts:

Part I: Written Examination (500 marks)

Part II: Personality Test (100 marks)

The written examination comprises two papers, each carrying a maximum of 250 marks. Each paper is of 2 hours duration.

Paper I: General Medicine and Pediatrics

Paper II: Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics, and Preventive & Social Medicine
